Kidi Calendar Privacy Policy
Effective 3 October 2026
Overview
Kidi Calendar is a visual family calendar from Web Canaries LLC. A parent or guardian sets up the schedule. A child looks at it. Privacy is kept small on purpose: the app has no advertising, no account with Web Canaries, and no Web Canaries server that stores the schedule.
Some information can leave the device when a parent turns on iCloud sync, invites another grown-up, or chooses to share a picture of tomorrow through the iPhone share sheet. Those paths use Apple's services, or an app the parent picks. They are described below.
Information used by the app
A parent can put the following into Kidi Calendar so the calendar can show the plan. The app does not ask for a child's age or birth date.
- A child's first name
- A display preference: mostly pictures, pictures and words, or more detail
- A selected character, such as a fox, bunny, otter, chick, puppy, or robin
- Optional photos of people, and optional photos on a plan
- The schedule: activities, days, times of day, repeats, countdowns, and notes a parent writes for themselves
- Custom activities a parent names
- Family members, caregivers, and places
- App preferences, including speech, sounds, reminders, the widget, which child is open, and whether iCloud sync is on
- An optional 4-digit grown-up code, stored as a hash and a salt, not as the digits themselves
- A local note of whether Kidi Calendar Family is active, so the app can unlock Family features without asking Apple on every screen
This information exists to provide the calendar.
On-device data
The schedule is saved on the iPhone, in the app's own storage, as the family calendar file. Photos a parent adds are copied into the app, reduced in size, and saved beside that file. The widget reads a short snapshot on the device: the child's first name and up to three of today's activity titles. That snapshot does not include photos.
The app also keeps a small local record of the Family subscription status from Apple. It does not include a payment card number.
Kidi Calendar writes a few technical log lines on the device, such as whether a sync finished. Those lines do not include the schedule, names, or photos, and they are not sent to Web Canaries.
iCloud and CloudKit
iCloud sync is off until a parent turns on Settings → iCloud → Keep this schedule in iCloud. When it is on, Kidi Calendar uses Apple's CloudKit to store the schedule in that person's iCloud account.
The copy can include the names, schedule, preferences, grown-up code hash, and photos described above. CloudKit uses it to sync the calendar across that person's devices. A parent can also invite another grown-up with Apple's sharing controls. People who are invited can open the shared schedule. The share is private to the people invited. It is not published to a public CloudKit database.
That information is transmitted through Apple's infrastructure. Kidi Calendar does not sell it. It is not used for advertising or tracking. Web Canaries does not run its own server for this calendar data.
Apple describes how iCloud and CloudKit handle data in Apple's Privacy Policy.
Microphone and speech
Microphone access is optional. Kidi Calendar asks for it only when a parent taps voice entry in the grown-up view. Speech recognition turns what was said into schedule suggestions the parent can review before saving.
Voice entry runs only when on-device speech recognition is available. If this device cannot do that, voice entry stays unavailable and the parent types or taps the plan instead. Kidi Calendar uses on-device speech recognition when voice entry is available. Kidi Calendar does not send recordings to Web Canaries servers.
The app does not keep the recording. A parent can deny microphone access, or deny speech recognition, in iPhone Settings. The calendar still works without the microphone. A parent can add a plan by tapping Add something.
When this iPhone supports Apple's on-device language model, the words of a spoken or typed plan may be processed by that model to suggest schedule items. That step runs on the device. Kidi Calendar does not send those words to Web Canaries or to a third-party AI service. If the on-device model is not available, the app uses its own built-in reading of the words instead.
Text to speech
Spoken event descriptions use Apple's speech on the device. A parent can turn speaking off in Settings. This does not send the schedule to Web Canaries.
Photos
Adding a photo is optional. A parent can add a photo of a person, or a photo on an individual plan, from the photo picker. The app copies the chosen picture, makes a smaller version, and shows it in the calendar. It does not scan the photo library in the background.
Photos stay on the device unless iCloud sync is on. If sync is on, the photos are included in the iCloud schedule described above, so the same pictures can appear on the parent's other devices and in a share that parent invites. Photos are not used for advertising, face recognition, or profiling, and they are not sent to a third-party AI service.
A picture of tomorrow
A parent can choose to share a picture of tomorrow through the iPhone share sheet. The picture can include the child's first name and activity titles if those options are left on. It does not include photos, parent notes, or the rest of the schedule. It goes only to the app the parent picks, such as Messages. Web Canaries does not receive that picture.
Notifications
Notifications are optional. They are reminders for the calendar: a prompt to check whether tomorrow is different, and a morning reminder when a countdown is the next day. The event name is included only if the parent turns that option on. Otherwise the reminder stays general.
These are local notifications scheduled on the device. Kidi Calendar does not use remote push notifications. Denying notification permission does not stop the calendar itself.
Purchases
Kidi Calendar Family is an auto-renewable subscription sold through Apple. The choices are Kidi Calendar Family Monthly and Kidi Calendar Family Yearly. The price is shown in the app before purchase and is charged by Apple to the Apple Account.
Payment is handled by StoreKit and the App Store. Kidi Calendar and Web Canaries do not receive the full payment-card number.
Analytics, ads, and tracking
The shipping app does not include advertising, an ad network, or a third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK. It does not use Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, the Meta SDK, PostHog, or another behavioral analytics tool. It does not track activity across other companies' apps or websites.
Kidi Calendar does not send schedule data to a third-party AI service. Artwork tools used while the app was being designed are not part of the app people install.
Children's privacy
Kidi Calendar is designed to be used by children with a parent or guardian supervising. The child's view is for looking at the plan. Editing, purchases, sharing, links out of the app, and deleting family data are in the grown-up view, behind a grown-up check.
There is no targeted advertising, no third-party behavioral analytics, and no social network, chat, or public child profile. Kidi Calendar does not sell children's personal information.
Data retention and deletion
The schedule, photos, and preferences stay on the device until a parent deletes them or deletes the app. If iCloud sync has been used, a copy may also remain in that iCloud account until the app's delete step removes it, or until it is removed from iCloud another way.
In the grown-up view, open Settings, then the Privacy section, then Delete family data. What that removes, and what it does not remove, is explained on the privacy choices page.
An iPhone backup made by Apple can still hold an older copy until that backup is deleted. Deleting Kidi Calendar data does not cancel an App Store subscription.
Changes
If a later version of Kidi Calendar starts handling information differently, this page will be updated and the effective date will change.
